Executive director’s salary will increase to $218,400 after governing board unanimously approves 5% raise.
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Broadband Governing Board on Monday unanimously approved a 5% raise for Executive Director Mike Sanders after approving an annual performance evaluation that found he exceeded performance standards in every category reviewed.
The raise takes effect July 1 and increases Sanders’ annual salary from $208,000 to $218,400, an increase of $10,400. Sanders’ previous salary of $208,000 was set by the governing board in 2025.
Following an executive session, Board Chairman Jim Meek said the completed performance evaluation found Sanders exceeded standards in every category reviewed. The board then voted unanimously to approve the evaluation before unanimously approving the salary increase.
The board discussed Sanders’ employment, performance and compensation during executive session before returning to open session to take the votes required under Oklahoma’s Open Meeting Act.
Sanders has served as executive director of the Oklahoma Broadband Office since 2023 and has overseen the distribution of hundreds of millions of dollars in state and federal broadband funding intended to expand high-speed internet service to underserved areas of Oklahoma.
Earlier in Monday’s meeting, Sanders told board members the office is entering a new phase as broadband construction projects move toward completion across the state. He highlighted last week’s first-customer connection celebration in Dewar and said similar events are expected as additional projects are completed this year.
Following the vote, Sanders thanked the governing board for its confidence in him and the agency’s staff.
“I want to thank the board for your continued trust in me and our team here at the Oklahoma Broadband Office,” Sanders said. “I’m grateful.”
The board approved both the evaluation and salary increase by unanimous vote before adjourning the meeting.
