Friday is last day to register for Aug. 25 runoff, special elections

Eligible Oklahoma voters have until midnight Friday to register or update their voter registration before the Aug. 25 election.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Eligible Oklahomans have until midnight Friday to register to vote or update their voter registration if they want to cast a ballot in the Aug. 25 runoff primary and special elections.

The deadline applies to new voter registrations and to voters who have moved to a different county and need to update their registration before the election. Applications must be received by the appropriate county election board or postmarked by midnight Friday. Applications submitted after the deadline will be processed after the Aug. 25 election.

The Aug. 25 election includes Republican runoff elections for governor and other statewide offices, legislative runoff races, local elections and two statewide ballot measures.

To register, applicants must be U.S. citizens, Oklahoma residents and at least 18 years old by Election Day to cast a ballot. Eligible applicants with a current Oklahoma driver’s license or state-issued identification card may register or update their information through the state’s online voter registration portal. Paper applications are also available through county election boards, tag agencies, post offices and many public libraries.

Voters who have moved within the same county may update their address through the online voter registration portal or by submitting a new voter registration application. Election officials recommend watching for a confirmation letter and voter identification card by mail after submitting an application. Anyone who does not receive a response within 30 days should contact their county election board.

Polls for the Aug. 25 election will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Additional information about voter registration, absentee voting and polling place lookup tools is available through the Oklahoma State Election Board.
