Man who stabbed Edmond police officer sentenced to three life terms

Defendant still faces separate Canadian County child sexual abuse case

OKLAHOMA CITY — A man who authorities say ambushed and repeatedly stabbed an Edmond police officer during a 2025 traffic stop has been sentenced to three consecutive life prison terms, along with an additional 13 years.

Ocean Hudson received the sentence Wednesday in Oklahoma County after pleading guilty in May to multiple felony charges stemming from the May 1, 2025, attack on Edmond Police Officer Caleb Hodam.

According to Attorney General Gentner Drummond’s office, Hodam was conducting a traffic stop when Hudson attacked him with pepper spray and a knife in what investigators described as an attempted “suicide-by-cop.”

Hodam suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to OU Health for treatment.

Authorities said Hudson had been scheduled to appear later that day in Canadian County on charges alleging he sexually abused a 4-year-old child and possessed child sexual abuse material.

Following the officer’s stabbing, investigators recovered multiple images and videos depicting child sexual abuse material from Hudson’s cellphone, according to the attorney general’s office.

Hudson still faces prosecution in Canadian County. Court records show he is scheduled to appear Aug. 6 in that case.

Attorney General Gentner Drummond said the sentence reflects the seriousness of Hudson’s crimes.

“Ocean Hudson sexually abused a child and ambushed a police officer,” Drummond said. “These are crimes for which we must have no tolerance. He deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison.”

As part of the plea agreement, Hudson waived his appellate rights, agreed to have no contact with the victims or their immediate family members, and must register as a sex offender if he is ever released from prison.

The convictions include assault and battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault and battery on a police officer, discharging pepper spray against a peace officer, placing bodily fluids on a government employee, obstructing an officer and aggravated possession of child sexual abuse material.
