Oklahoma opens Taiwan trade office to expand business ties

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma officials on Tuesday formally opened the state’s Taiwan Regional Trade Office, a new state office intended to strengthen trade, investment and economic partnerships between Oklahoma and Taiwan.

The office, housed within the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, was authorized by Senate Bill 209, approved by the Legislature in 2025. The measure became law without Gov. Kevin Stitt’s signature and took effect in August 2025.

Rep. Daniel Pae, R-Lawton, and Sen. Roland Pederson, R-Burlington, who authored the legislation, said the office builds on Oklahoma’s longstanding relationship with Taiwan and is expected to help attract investment while creating new opportunities for Oklahoma businesses.

“Taiwan has been a valued economic partner and friend for decades, and this office will help open new doors for investment, innovation and job creation,” Pae said in a statement.

Pederson said the office will strengthen the state’s sister-state relationship with Taiwan while expanding trade and encouraging additional investment in Oklahoma communities.

Gov. Kevin Stitt joined lawmakers and Taiwanese officials for Tuesday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony at the State Capitol marking the office’s official opening.
