Miami Republican says Oklahoma’s tribal gaming experience will help inform national policy discussions.
OKLAHOMA CITY — Rep. Steve Bashore, R-Miami, has been named to the Executive Committee of the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States, a bipartisan organization that examines gaming regulation and public policy.
The executive committee serves as the organization’s governing body, overseeing discussions on gaming regulation and policy, including casinos, lotteries, sports betting, iGaming, responsible gaming and tribal gaming issues.
Bashore, who serves as deputy floor leader in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, previously worked as general manager of Buffalo Run Casino & Resort. His House district includes several tribal casinos in northeast Oklahoma.
“I’m honored to both bring Oklahoma’s perspective as a gaming compact state to the table and to learn from other national legislators who have devoted years of study to the issues surrounding gaming in their own states,” Bashore said in a statement.
The council brings together state lawmakers from across the country to discuss gaming legislation and regulation. Its meetings also are open to tribal, state and local government officials, giving Oklahoma policymakers an additional forum to discuss issues affecting the state’s gaming industry.
