Executive board says it referred records to law enforcement and will reorganize under a new identity.
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Young Republican Women of Oklahoma announced late Wednesday that it removed its founding president and referred records to law enforcement after an internal review uncovered financial irregularities.
The Lawton Constitution first reported the development, citing unnamed sources as saying questions have been raised about more than $6,000 in spending. The newspaper also reported that former President Brittany Anderson could not be reached for comment.
According to the executive board, concerns surfaced during a review of the organization’s financial records. Board members said they immediately secured available records, sought legal guidance and voted to remove Anderson as president on June 14 before referring the matter to law enforcement. The board publicly announced those actions late Wednesday.
The board said it provided documentation from its review to “the appropriate local law enforcement agency” but did not identify the agency or describe the nature of the irregularities. It also cautioned that no conclusions should be drawn while the legal process remains ongoing.
“Our members, supporters, and donors placed their trust in this organization, and we take that responsibility seriously,” First Vice President Sarah McGuckin said. “When concerns came to light, we acted immediately to protect the organization’s assets, preserve the available records, and fulfill our fiduciary responsibilities to the membership.”
The organization was launched less than a year ago as an affiliate of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women. The executive board has voted to retire the current organization and relaunch under a new name. The board said the decision would bring “an appropriate conclusion” to the existing organization while giving members and supporters an opportunity to move forward “with a stronger foundation.” Additional details about the rebranded organization are expected to be announced later.
