The contribution will support medical research and health education and put Harold Hamm’s name on OU’s Oklahoma City Health Campus.
OKLAHOMA CITY — Harold Hamm has committed $150 million to the University of Oklahoma, the largest single gift in the university’s history.
OU announced the gift Tuesday, saying its Health Campus in Oklahoma City will be renamed the Harold Hamm Health Campus at the University of Oklahoma.
Of the $150 million, $50 million will go to the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, while $100 million will support broader academic and research work on the Health Campus. The latest commitment brings Hamm’s lifetime giving to OU to nearly $250 million, making him the university’s largest individual donor.
Hamm has supported diabetes research at OU for nearly two decades. His initial gift helped establish the diabetes center in 2007, and OU says he has invested more than $50 million in that effort since then.
“Oklahoma has given me more than I could ever repay, and I can think of no greater investment than in the health and lives of its people,” Hamm said in the university’s announcement.
The Health Campus includes six health professions colleges, OU’s Graduate College and more than 4,100 students.
