OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma State Election Board is reminding voters that applications for absentee ballots must be submitted by 5 p.m. Monday ahead of Oklahoma’s upcoming statewide primary elections.
Under Oklahoma law, any registered voter eligible to participate in an election may vote absentee, and no excuse is required to request a ballot.
Voters may submit absentee ballot applications online through the state’s OK Voter Portal, deliver applications in person to their county election board office, or return applications by mail or fax before the deadline.
To request a ballot, voters must provide identifying information matching their voter registration record, including their name, residential address and date of birth. Voters also must specify the election for which they are requesting a ballot and where the ballot should be mailed.
Election officials are encouraging voters not to wait until the last minute because absentee ballots must be completed and returned under specific affidavit requirements established by state law. Most standard absentee ballots require the voter’s affidavit to be notarized or accompanied by an approved form of identification, while separate procedures apply for military, overseas and physically incapacitated voters.
Completed absentee ballots must be received by county election boards by 7 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted.
Early voting for Oklahoma’s statewide primary elections is scheduled to begin June 11.
More information about absentee voting, voter registration and election deadlines is available through the Oklahoma State Election Board.
