Drummond trades campaign trail for White House meeting with Vance as primary nears

OKLAHOMA CITY — As the Republican primary enters its final stretch, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond traded the campaign trail for Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, leveraging his official role into a meeting with Vice President JD Vance that doubles as a campaign-stage moment his opponents don’t have.

The trip comes the same day a poll commissioned by NonDoc showed a tightly packed Republican field with no clear frontrunner, underscoring the premium on visibility and momentum in the race’s closing weeks.

According to a news release from Drummond’s office, the meeting included roughly 15 state attorneys general, federal law enforcement leaders and inspectors general, along with Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. The roundtable focused on strategies to strengthen coordination between state and federal agencies, enhance consumer protections and crack down on increasingly sophisticated fraud schemes.

“Fraud is not a victimless crime. It steals from taxpayers, exploits vulnerable people and undermines public trust,” Drummond said in a statement. “Oklahoma is aggressively pursuing the corporations, criminal networks and bad actors responsible for these schemes, and we now have federal partners who are serious about helping states get results.”

The appearance comes with three weeks until the June 16 Republican primary, as Drummond continues to highlight his law enforcement record while maintaining visibility alongside national Republican figures.

During the discussion, Drummond pointed to ongoing enforcement efforts in Oklahoma, including a lawsuit against State Farm alleging improper denial of hail and wind damage claims. He also highlighted the work of the state’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, which investigates health care provider fraud as well as abuse, neglect and exploitation in long-term care settings.

According to the release, a recent multi-month investigation by the unit led to 10 criminal case filings and one civil action involving 15 individuals and entities tied to multiple fraud schemes.

Drummond emphasized coordination with federal partners, including the FBI, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General and U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, as well as joint training efforts on emerging threats such as cryptocurrency-related fraud.

“Oklahoma is proving every day that aggressive enforcement and strong partnerships work,” he said. “We are recovering taxpayer dollars, dismantling fraud schemes and holding powerful interests accountable when they exploit Oklahomans.”

Drummond also used the meeting to praise the Trump administration’s approach to law enforcement cooperation, contrasting it with prior federal policies.

“President Trump and Vice President Vance have restored cooperation with the states and made clear that public safety and law enforcement matter again,” Drummond said. “I am grateful for their strong leadership and look forward to continuing this important partnership.”
